Sample Day-Hiking Packing
List
CLOTHES TO WEAR: thin jacket, fleece, hat (non-cotton), gloves (non-cotton), 2 shirts (non-cotton), pants (non-cotton), socks (non-cotton), boots, poncho or rainsuit, handkerchief.
GEAR & EXTRAS: daypack or backpack, pack rain cover, map, compass, camera, flashlight, garbage bag, toilet paper, & trowel, sunscreen, bug spray, lip balm, walking stick/trekking poles, binoculars, first aid kit, whistle, sunglasses, water bottles.
SPARE CLOTHING: spare underwear, spare socks, spare shirt.
FOOD & Water: trail mix, peanut butter, power bars, snacks, 2 quarts of water, etc...
DonŐt forget to add your own items to this list but you donŐt want to carry more than about 15 pounds (20 tops) on a day hike - itŐs not comfortable. If youŐre over weight, then get rid of gear - not water!!!!
