  1. white oak - useful for all wood purposes - manufacture of barrels, furniture, ties, posts, etc...
  2. northern red oak - flooring, furniture, millwork, railroad ties, mine timbers, fenceposts, pilings, pulpwood...
  3. walnut - high quality furniture, gunstocks, fine veneers
  4. hickory - handles of picks, hatchets, hammers, baseball bats, skis
  5. sugar maple - furniture wood, boxes, crates, veneer, flooring, sap used to make maple syrup, ornamental tree
  6. sweetgum - cabinetwood, plywood, barrels, furniture, wood trim, and as an ornamental tree; 2nd in timber production to oaks
  7. black cherry - furniture, toys, handles, paneling, professional and scientific instruments, cabinet wood, ornamental tree
  8. sycamore - butcher blocks, furniture, crates, barrels, flooring, particleboard, pulpwood, matchsticks, popsickle sticks
  9. redbud - ornamental tree
  10. dogwood - ornamental; used to make weaving shuttles, spool and bobbin heads, golf club and mallet heads
  11. ash - handles for garden tools, baseball bats, furniture, hockey sticks, tennis rackets, boat oars
  12. poison ivy - produces a chemical called urushiol, which causes a rash in humans
  13. persimmon - golf club heads, weaving shuttles, furniture veneer, fruit is edible and used to make pudding, cake, beverage
  14. black willow - millwork, furniture, doors, cabinetwork, pulpwood, boxes, crates, used to stabilize riverbanks
  15. pawpaw - produces fruit similar to banana that may be marketed in the future
